JOHN F. LEAVITT

The 144 ft. cargo xchooner JOHN F LEAVITT was under construction in January 1979 at the R. L. Wallace & Sons, Inc., yard in Thomaston, Maine. The project took three years and cost $500,000. The ship was launched August 8, 1979. On December 27, 1979, she sank with a load of lumber south of Long Island, New York, while headed for Haiti.
