Schooner ANNIE B. MITCHELL

ANNIE B. MITCHELL, a 463 t, 145.3' schooner built in 1889, Madison CT. By 1938 owned by Snow Marine Co. of Rockland. Stern view, Annie B. Mitchell. New London. Rough Shape. Planks off stern. Aground. “This vessel languished alongside an abandoned Gilcrest granite pier across from Snow’s Shipyard, filling and draining with the tide. We, as kids, used to shinny up a rope that dangled from her starboard side and get aboard occasionally. A spooky place to be! Later, during or just after WW2, she was towed to Hewitts Island to serve as a part of a lobster pound. When we visited around 1990, only one post of her centerboard trunk showed above water at low tide, although her timbers could be seen under the surface. “
