[included in the exhibit "Working Waterfronts"] Things to Come, c.1936 LB2008.15.224 On a light duty marine railway to the west of Snow's Shipyard are a pair of small motorboats. While Rockland would stay staunchly a commercial harbor into the early 1990s, a place to be avoided by yachts, it is now dominated by them. Moorings have gone from 87 in 1990 to 400 in 2000. Yacht yards are on former lime kiln and fish packing sites. The nearby motor launch, a hunting cabin cruising style with a torpedo stern is getting its spring paint. The one behind it has the look of a boat set up to carry passengers. These are framed in the masts of the three-masted schooners CHARLES H. KLINCK, GEORGE E. KLINCK and ANNIE B. MITCHELL. The two KLINCKS were put into commission for World War II. Both were wrecked. M. Elmer Montgomery Collection LB2008.15.224
