Barkentine-4 REINE MARIE STEWART ready for launch at Thomaston, Maine 1919.
The four-masted REINE MARIE STEWART built by Dunn & Elliot ready for launch at Thomaston, Maine in1919. (the house was at that time owned by George Heaton). 31 Water Street, which is the Cape style house with two chimneys visible at the right side of the photo. The house was built in the early 1840s, and was owned by four men, Richard Robinson, Oliver Jordan, McCallum and Edwin Counce. In 1849 they sold it to Henry Bohndell, a Danish immigrant and sailmaker. His name lives on with Bohndell Sails in Rockport. The rails used to launch her are still visible below us at Customs Coatings. Also still around is the sail loft building visible on the far left, under the stern of the ship. It was recently gorgeously renovated and is a seasonal home.
