Near view of Petit Manan Lighthouse, Maine, built in 1855, replaced original 1817 stone structure. The granite tower is the 2nd tallest light in Maine. Petit Manan Light stands on Petit Manan Island, off Stueben, between Dyer Bay and Pigeon Hill Bay. In this view the tall light, built by Capt.W.B.Franklin, towers over the keeper's house and out buildings. The keeper's house was added in 1875. The light was automated in 1972. Petit Manan Island is part of US Fish and Wildlife Service's Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge, and is not open to the public. See also LB2015.15.36 & 60
