The Isles of Shoals Light (White Island Light) stands on White Island, in the Isles of Shoals, off Portsmouth, New Hampshire. White Island is one of several in this group that lie in Rye, New Hampshire. The northern group is part of Kittery, Maine. A light was first erected on White Island in 1821, this structure was built by Capt. W.B. Franklin in 1889. It was automated in 1987. In this close view a covered walkway over great boulders leads from a small stone building to the base of the lighthouse. A shorter round tower gives entrance to the lighthouse itself. The building at the foot of the walkway is stone and has a single door and no windows. Other clapboarded building stand at the left. The keepers house is out of view to the left. See also LB2015.15.25
