Windsor Hotel Decorated for Old Home Week 1903
View of the bunting-clad Windsor Hotel during "Old Home Week" in 1903 By the mid-19th century Belfast was becoming a popular destination for travelers. The Windsor Hotel, originally built as a private home in 1809 by Benjamin Eells., was enlarged to accommodate the influx of guests and lodgers. First known as the New England House it opened in 1848. It was remodeled and enlarged with a third story in 1860 and was renamed the Windsor Hotel in 1885. It featured its own stable located next to the Masonic Building. The sign for the stable can be seen on the building adjacent to the hotel. The attached building to the right is the Windsor Annex.
