View of Tilden Pond from Charles Coombs' summer camp "Ten Oaks". In this view one can see two young women in a canoe ready to paddle out on the pond. To their left are three young men, two relaxing in Coombs' LITTLE ELVA with the third young man standing on the shore holding an oar and a fishing rod. LITTLE ELVA (16' 3/4" in length x 4' 3 - 1/4" beam x 2' 1- 1/2"Draft) is a wooden captain's gig built c.1881 by the carpenter of the CORA for Charles R. Coombs, the son of Captain Robert. H. Coombs. It is named for Elva Leith, the daughter of Cora Leith, Charles's sister in Bedford, England. Its carvings are by Captain Coombs. The settee is rigged. The hull is painted white with varnished wood trim.
