Parlor scene with rattan chairs and early floor model radio. This is likely the home of Charles Coombs as evidenced by the stuffed owl atop the radio. The radio in the photograph is a Globe Trotter Royal Grand Model XVI (16), manufactured by the Colin B. Kennedy Corp. of San Francisco & St. Louis in April 1925 and first available in July 1925 at a price of $235.00. It is a 5 tube broadcast receiver which uses (5) UV201A tubes. The radio received on the AM medium wave band (526.5 kHz to 1606.5 kHz). It operated on (6) 22 volt batteries (total of 135 volts located in the area below the radio behind the panel doors that open to reveal storage area. Sound was produced through a loudspeaker horn located in the ornate area above the radio panel. The radio stood 50" in height, was 28" wide and 16" deep and weighed 70 pounds.
