In this image a potted plant, on the floor, is viewed from above.
Kosti shoots so that only the veined leaves of this plant are seen against the pale, veined tones of the stone floor. The light is flat. The overall effect is slightly abstracting, except for the blurred suggestion of something in the lower left corner.
Little is known about this series depicting various potted plants in greenhouse settings. The photographer did, on occasion, choose to explore the structures of trees, and the effects of light and shadow on their forms. While Kosti's archive includes a typed listing of some of the plants in this series and their botanical histories, it does not explain the context of the apparently unpublished assignment.
