This image shows couples swinging during a square dance in a hall decorated with pictures and Japanese paper lanterns.
Kosti shoots from a slightly elevated angle, the better to view the couples in the space. In this series the participants are generally undistracted by the photographer, but in this frame one man looks directly at the camera.
In this improvised dance hall Ruohomaa finds his preferred subject matter: the folkways of ordinary people at work and, as here, at play.
